Policy Statement

Kenyatta University is committed to ensuring the health, well-being, and safety of all members of the University community, including students, staff, and visitors. As part of this commitment, the University provides access to safe and potable drinking water across its campuses.

Scope

This statement applies to:

  • All students, staff, and visitors on University premises.

  • All University campuses, including Main Campus, City Campus, Parklands, and satellite campuses.

  • All academic, administrative, residential, and recreational facilities.

Provision of Drinking Water

  • Drinking water points: The University has installed drinking water fountains, water coolers, and taps in key areas including lecture halls, libraries, hostels, offices, and sports facilities.

  • Maintenance and safety: All drinking water sources are maintained regularly to ensure water quality and hygiene standards are met.

  • Safe water standards: Water provided is tested periodically for compliance with national and WHO drinking water standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Directorate of Estates: Responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of water supply infrastructure.

  • Directorate of Environmental Sustainability: Monitors water quality, conducts periodic testing, and ensures compliance with health standards.

  • Students and Staff: Are encouraged to report any issues with water supply or quality to the Estates Department promptly.
